FASHION DOYENNE PAT FIELD
SHARES HER SECRET TO SUCCESS

Some know Patricia Field as the seminal stylist, who made Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte the most fashionable women on TV as costume designer for Sex and the City. (The Oscar and Emmy-nominated stylist also styled for The Devil Wears Prada and Younger, starring Hilary Duff.) Others know Ms. Field for her famous NYC retail store, which closed last year after decades of serving New York’s greatest; Patti Smith is said to have shopped for Parisian chiffon blouses at the store. (Other stars like Miley Cyrus, Missy Elliot, Lady Gaga, RuPaul and Debbie Harry used to shopped there too.) And some simply know the fabulous Ms. Field for her by her trademark fire-red hair and joie de vivre.

But no matter how you know the legendary fashion icon, Pat Field’s rank as the mother of all stylists and champion of up-and-coming designers can’t be disputed.

So when we spotted the one and only Pat Field at the Resort 2016 Wolk Morais show in Los Angeles, we just had to ask (well, after majorly fangirling out for a hot second): What’s the secret to becoming a success, no matter what field you’re in or wanna be in? Here’s what she had to say:

“The secret is to understand what you are good at. Don’t look around and see what everyone sels is doing. If you like it and do whatever you’re good at, you will succeed. People don’t give themselves enough credit and confidence. Don’t believe your press. Just keep doing your work.”

Follow your talent and never stop the hustle? Carry yourself with confidence and ignore the hype? Done and done, Ms. Field!

Pat Field not only styled some of the most beloved characters on television and in film, but she has influenced generations of girls and women in the way they dress themselves. Nameplate necklaces? Those originated with Ms. Field. Loved by drag queens and performance artists like Amanda Lepore and superstar actors and musicians alike, Pat Field is a living legend.
