INTRODUCING YOUR NEW THEME SONG, COURTESY OF TINA FEY
As an art form, theme songs and ad jingles are historically, more annoying than anything. But in Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, we’ve found a ditty that we actually want to run through our heads all day.
That’s because Tina Fey (by way of her musician husband Jeff Richmond), has brought us a kick-ass theme song that should serve as the theme to any real girl’s life. Seriously. Check out the lyrics, below:
they alive, damnit,
it’s a miracle.
They alive, damnit,
Cuz Females ARE STRONG AS HELL
And because this little number as catchy as a Taylor Swift song, it’s empowering lyrics have a way of popping into your head when you least expect it. Which means when life gets us down, our brains are telling us that we’re unbreakable and “females are strong as hell” instead of the usual “you suck” messaging. Now this is how you mantra.
In the words of another comedic hero, Ilana from Broad City, “Yas Queen!”
In the show, title character Kimmy has to re-learn how to do life after being held captive in a bunker for fifteen years. But what we love most about the character is that she’s often cited as being physically strong, in addition to being strong in her convictions, not that you would know it from the kinder-gear clothes she wears or the stuck-in-time slang she busts out. But never mind all that. Kimmy, like other women ARE strong as hell (how else could we get through childbirth) and this theme song reminds us of that every second it runs through our heads.
