HAVE A #NOFILTER NIGHT
(WITHOUT UPDATING INSTAGRAM)
It’s hard to go out without chronicling the night. Why shouldn’t everyone see the hot guy you made out with or amazing band you saw?
No matter how exciting your night and how much you want to share that excitement with your 500 friends online, somewhere, a kitten dies every time you stop living in the moment and look down at your screen to check in, tweet or post. OK. So you’re not killing kittens with your instagram updates, but you are doing a little bit to kill a touch of magic in your night. How? Well, the less you look up and out at the people and things around you (instead of down and at your screen), the more realtime moments you loose. Pivitoal, night (and sometimes life)-changing moments like when scanning a room, and you happen to catch the gaze of a hottie who, in that second, is also looking your way. Or when the sights, sounds and smells of a particular place and moment perfectly collide to give your brain an endorphin surge that makes you feel pure happiness.
Not sure what we mean? Check this Delta Spirit California video, which captures a perfect night out:
So, as we launch into another weekend, why not:
- Force yourself to live in the moment by downloading an app that temporarily blocks social media sites from your phone, like SelfControl or Cold Turkey, and see what happens when you keep it social IRL when you go out?
**(Bonus: by taking a night off of Instagram and the like, you’re also not leaving digital evidence of your every activity for your parents to find. After all, do they really need to know that you were out rocking blue hair while kissing a boy?)
- Ditch the heels and confining outfits for a look that allows you to scale fences, ride bikes or do anything else that allows for adventure?
- Leave that expensive bag your parents gave you for your birthday at home and take a cheap cross-body that keeps you hands-free on the dancefloor and can get knocked around without worry?
- Break out the hair chalk, a little experimental makeup (like the eyeshadow look from Lorde’s Royals video—here’s a quick BeyoutyInsider tutorial), and sunglasses to help face the rising sun?
But no matter what you do, make sure keep it accountable and make it home for breakfast, just like our Delta Spirit girl, no matter what we do, there’s no need to make our parents worry.
